      John first appears on the list of male inhabitants between 16 and 60 years old and able to bear arms in Plymouth, Plymouth, MA in 1643. on 18 August 1645 he bought a farm from Richard Higgins. He was made freeman on 4 June 1650 and was admitted on 5 June 1651. On 20 October 1652 he bought from Nathaniel Masterson, ten acres of upland lying at Wellingsley (Plymouth, MA). He is called a Planter in the deed. According to the Ancient Landmarks of Plymouth, p. 331, it is thought his home may have been located where the home of Thomas Sears and Amos Leshure stood.
